A $13.1 million runway improvement project aims to expand safety and lifespan at the San Fernando valley aviation hub.
VAN NUYS>>The Van Nuys Airport will break ground later this month on a $13.1 million runway improvement project, the Los Angeles World Airports announced Friday.
The project will reconstruct Runway 16L and rehabilitate Runway 16R over eight months to improve safety and extend the lifespan of airfield facilities, according to the LAWA, which operates the Van Nuys Airport along with LAX. Runway 16L will close for 161 days during construction.
“As one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country, VNY and its tenants will benefit from these runway improvements that will enhance operations, safety and our facilities,” LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci said.

VAN NUYS>> Tenants at Van Nuys Airport should expect to see revenue decrease by $16.4 million by the end of June, and $26.5 million by the end of the year, according to a study released this month from a group of graduate students at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. The students’ study was based on anonymous questionnaire responses from six master tenants representing about 60 percent of the total leased acreage at the airport and from data from the Federal Aviation Administration through the end of April.

VAN NUYS>> California business aviation hub Van Nuys Airport has completed the first phase of a $26.3 million, nine-step rehabilitation project on Taxiway B. The work at the Los Angeles-area gateway included a full-depth restoration of the north end of the taxiway, along with enhanced markings, installation of embedded and elevated LED guard lights, a new blast fence east of Runway 16L, and upgraded signage.
